Kindness, Remembrance, and Documentaries.

Filming

This photo shows what it is like to film for documentaries during a pandemic. A lot of distance maintained between me and the crew, and a lot of other safety precautions. There’s always still somewhat of a risk, but with as much care taken as possible, it’s nice to continue to work.

I continue to be moved by the kindness and sense of community I see around the world right now at this strange time. Third Avenue Charitable Organization is a downtown San Diego organization I have been volunteering at for many years, as they provide meals, clothes, medical services, and essential administrative help such as mail and advice on benefits help for San Diego’s vulnerable homeless population. As you might imagine, the pandemic made their work even more critical. City services dried up, volunteers stayed away, and living conditions on the street became even more unsafe.

TACO has recently partnered with the Fish to Families program, which supports local San Diego fisherman by providing locally caught fish to those in need, including seniors, families, and San Diego's homeless community. It has allowed TACO to double the numbers of days per week that it can offer high-protein meals to its guests. I continue to be inspired by the number of people I see volunteering their skills and services for no other reason than it is the right thing to do.

Lastly, the folks at The Space Station Museum just north of San Francisco asked me to talk about Apollo astronaut Al Worden, who we lost earlier this year. It turned out to be a surprisingly moving conversation, reminding us all of how much he is missed. The conversation is viewable here.

Stay safe.
